Bundesliga promoted Hamburger SV suffered a bitter defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday. The HSV women lost 1:2 (0:1) with a goal in stoppage time.

Everything looked like a draw and therefore a respectable success for the Hamburg team. But then Estrella Merino Gonzalez went for a solo and hit hard. HSV goalkeeper Inga Schuldt, who was already on the ground, could only let the ball bounce upwards, where Caroline Kehrer was there and headed it in to give the favorites the win – in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Bitter for the Hanseatic League, who previously deserved a draw. In the fight to stay in the league, the league newcomer must now score points in the home game against 1. FC Nürnberg next Sunday (2 p.m., in the full audio report in the NDR Livecenter). The defeat in Leverkusen is already the fifth game without a win in a row.

Kögel scores worth seeing for Leverkusen

The Hamburg team approached the away game courageously, played forward and was caught cold after 14 minutes. After a long ball from the right half field, neither Annalena Wucher nor Nina Räcke felt responsible for Kristin Kögel, who, worth seeing, scored the 1-0 for Leverkusen with a direct pass.

The goal conceded had an effect on HSV. Coach Liése Brancão’s team became more and more passive and missed counterattack opportunities with imprecise passes to the front.

HSV first in luck and then ice cold

The Hanseatic League couldn’t really turn the switch on in the second half. They were lucky that Vanessa Fudalla’s long-range shot hit the crossbar (49′). HSV goalkeeper Inga Schuldt made a complete mistake and didn’t react at all.

But in the 70th minute the promoted team was there. After a bad pass from Leverkusen, the guests switched quickly and substitute Sophie Hillebrandt skillfully hit the far corner to make it 1-1.

Meyer misses the possible 2:1

Christin Meyer could have made the sensation perfect. In the 88th minute, the Hamburg player had a free shot from eleven meters, but missed the half-volley. The guests threw everything they had into it to at least get the point over time, but then Gonzalez started…

Attacker Viktoria Schwalm from Hamburger SV is injured on the ground

The attacker suffered a serious knee injury in the Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt. It is already the fifth long-term loss for the promoted team.
