After long negotiations, EU climate ministers reached an agreement this morning on a climate target for 2040. The EU member states agreed to the European Commission’s proposal to reduce CO₂ emissions by 90 percent compared to 1990. The agreement has been watered down on several points. Belgium abstained. Federal Climate Minister Jean-Luc Crucke reacts disappointed. “By refusing to be ambitious, Belgium is depriving itself of influence,” he regrets in a press release.
