The Menem DNA is resistant. They are not easy to throw out nor do they forgive those who tried to do so. Martín and “Lule”, the Rioja cousins of libertarian power, not only continue clinging to their positions – against what all the forecasts indicated – but now they also demand their revenge. They have sworn it to star advisor Santiago Caputo, the same one who weeks ago, when the Andis bribery scandal was worsening, whispered in Javier Milei’s ear that he should get rid of them, the central protagonists of that plot. “To decompress,” the advisor completed his explanation.
The point is that Milei was about to listen to him. The departure of “Lule” Menem had already been decided and it was rumored that, as of December, Martín would abandon the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies to leave that place to the libertarian-macrista Cristian Ritondo. The Menem, get out! But something happened in the middle: Karina, the presidential sister, his great protector, confronted Javier and prevented them from being kicked out. Especially because on the other side was his internal rival, Caputo.
We already know how the parable ended these days. The Menems went from pariahs to empowered thanks to the unexpected victory in the elections, which surprised the Government itself. On the night of the celebrations, “Lule” emerged from the ostracism on his social networks and took credit for that feat, like the great territorial point guard in the shadows that he is. It happens that it was Karina’s second in the General Secretariat of the Presidency who insisted on putting together the party in all the provinces, against the advice of Caputo who preferred to generate alliances with like-minded governors and not lose energy in that ant job of installing La Libertad Avanza in each district. “Lule’s” strategy turned out well because, apart from the setback in the province of Buenos Aires, it was the interior of the country that tipped the balance in favor of Milei. Martín Menem, the best-known of the cousins, was the one who supported him in this task.
Now that they know they have been vindicated, the Menems do not forget the person who tried to behead them, “Santi” Caputo. The other day, at an official event, a condescending hug was seen between “Lule” and the advisor, but the truth is that the tension reached such a point in the past that they even stopped talking and blocked each other on WhatsApp. Chiquilinadas of power. How does this story continue? Spoiler alert: the Menems, encouraged by their boss Karina, now promise to go after the funds that Caputo still manages, those of SIDE, YPF and the former AFIP, currently ARCA. They will be the executors of the sister’s vendetta against the advisor, who tired her with his intrigues and his requests to appear on the libertarian ballots. Karina and the Menems go after Santiago, who, in fact, did not assume any important ministry after the elections, contrary to what he himself had made known to his journalist friends.
The final battle is about to be fought.
