Robin Gosens has been playing in Serie A again since 2024, this time for AC Florence. His club has now fired the team’s head coach.

Fiorentina have released Stefano Pioli. As the club announced on Tuesday, the head coach was relieved of his duties. The Italian club, where DFB professional Robin Gosens is also under contract, thanked Pioli and his coaching staff for their professionalism. Daniele Galloppa will take over as interim coach.

Pioli only took up his post in July. He had already been a coach at AC Fiorentina between 2017 and 2019. He then also worked as a coach for AC Milan and for Al-Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi Arabian club. Pioli has also worked as a coach at Inter Milan and Lazio Rome.

The 60-year-old was on the sidelines a total of 14 times in his second term in Florence. He won all games in qualifying and the first two games of the Conference League. But Pioli’s record in the league reads shockingly: after ten match days, Fiorentina only has four points. The team has not yet managed a win, but has suffered six defeats. The club is in last place in the table.

The next game for AC Florence is scheduled for Thursday. Then we go to Germany. In the Conference League the team will face 1. FSV Mainz 05. Robin Gosens will miss this game. The 24-time Germany international has torn a muscle fiber in his left thigh, the club announced.

It is not yet clear how long Gosens will be out. Gosens had not been considered for the DFB team in recent months. He last played for Germany in the Nations League against Portugal in June. In Florence, the wing player is again part of the regular team.
