SC Paderborn has taken over the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. With a 2:1 (1:0) against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, coach Ralf Kettemann’s team took the lead for the first time this season. It was the seventh win in a row for East Westphalia. Fürth, under coach Thomas Kleine, has been waiting for a success for five games and slipped into the relegation place.

After both teams were eliminated from the DFB Cup during the week – Paderborn lost 4-2 to Bayer Leverkusen in extra time, Fürth lost 1-0 to 1. FC Kaiserslautern – an even game initially developed. After several exuberant top-class shots, Laurin Curda (37th minute) gave the hosts the lead with a directly converted free kick in front of 13,919 spectators in the Paderborn Stadium.

After the break, Paderborn’s defense withstood the visitors’ attacks, Santiago Castañeda saved a header from David Abrangao (56′) on the line, and a free kick from Felix Klaus (63′) was blocked. On the other side, Filip Bilbija (63′) scored with a header after a quick counterattack to make it 2-0 – and thus in the sixth league game in a row. Shortly before the end, Fürth’s Omar Sillah (90th) scored from distance, deflected by Paderborn’s Felix Götze, to make it 1-2.

VfL Bochum breathes a sigh of relief

New coach Uwe Rösler has led VfL Bochum back into a non-relegation zone after more than two months. The Revierklub, which had slipped deep into the bottom of the table, climbed to 14th place in the table on Sunday after winning 2-0 (1-0) against 1. FC Magdeburg. The Bochum team under Rösler got seven points from the last three league games plus the 1-0 cup win at FC Augsburg. Magdeburg, on the other hand, suffered another defeat after three unbeaten competitive games in a row under new coach Petrik Sander and remains in last place in the table.

The hosts started the game furiously in front of 26,000 spectators in the Ruhrstadion and scored a goal against the post and crossbar through Philipp Stromp (3rd minute) and Farid Alfa-Ruprecht (18th). Shortly before the break, Kjell Wätjen (41st) scored to make it 1-0. Gerrit Holtmann increased the score to 2-0 (60th). Magdeburg’s Falko Michel missed a penalty and only hit the crossbar (81′).

Markusbeginn gets the first point with Fortuna Düsseldorf

The new coach Markus beginning won his first point with Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga. The 51-year-old and his team drew 1-1 (0-0) against his former club 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Luca Sirch gave the Palatinate the lead with a free kick in the 55th minute. Substitute Sima Suso scored the late equalizer in front of 40,067 spectators (84th).

As a result, FCK has fallen slightly behind the top trio in the table. For Fortuna coach Beginning, after two previous defeats, it was at least a draw. In his fourth competitive game as Fortuna coach and four days after the DFB Cup exit against SC Freiburg, the hosts only had five outfield players on the bench. Luca Raimund also missed the warm-up for the Düsseldorf team, who were already plagued by injuries.

After a largely uneventful first half, Sirch shot the ball into the net from a free kick around the Fortuna wall, duping goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier. A supposed 2-0 just three minutes later was conceded by referee Lars Erbst after a VAR decision – striker Ivan Prtajin had been offside. The referee’s microphone failed so that his reasons could not be heard. Anouar El Azzouzi then missed a great header chance to equalize in the 74th. The score was 1-1 almost out of nowhere when 20-year-old Suso hit the corner.
