Rosa Spruit came second on Saturday evening at the third edition of the Regional Song Contest. With her song ‘No Words on Paper’, the singer-songwriter managed to score 162 points in the Musis & Stadstheater in Arnhem. The win goes to RTV Noord with their song ‘Alles Goud’.

The 25-year-old singer from Eindhoven received 82 points from the professional juries and was appreciated by Robin, the new AI jury member. At the televoting Rosa managed to score no less than 70 points.

The Regional Song Contest is an annual event in which regional broadcasters put their musical talents in the spotlight. Each province delegates an artist who performs a self-written Dutch song. The Brabant entry scored four points more than the number three.

A personal number
With ‘No words on paper’ Rosa showed a vulnerable side of herself. The song was created during a period when her relationship was under pressure. Later the song took on a new meaning. “It’s about loss in the broadest sense of the word. From a relationship that has ended, to the fear of losing someone you love,” she said earlier.

During the final she performed the song with just her guitar. Her voice broke at just the right moment, and the room fell silent.

From rosa glitter guitar to national stage
Rosa was born in Utrecht and moved to Bergeijk with her family when she was seven. She grew up in a musical family where everyone can play an instrument. Her father played in a band for many years and is still her greatest support. At a young age he gave her a pink glitter guitar. That started her love for music. She now lives in Eindhoven where she is working on her path as a singer-songwriter.

Third edition
The Regional Song Contest was held for the third time this year. The second edition of the music event, last year in Maastricht, was won by Emma Luca from Gelderland. The year before, Limburg’s Emmy Ackermans won. For the third time, Brabant finished just off the podium on Saturday evening.
