NAC knows what winning is again. After four consecutive competition matches without a win and elimination from the KNVB Cup, the people of Breda were too strong for Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday evening 1-0. Under the crossbar was Polish goalkeeper Daniel Bielica, who had to watch his replacement Kostas Lamprou make an unhappy impression in the last few matches. The goalkeeper from Greece then received several threats via social media.
Before the competition started there was an organized fireworks show in the Rat Verlegh Stadium. When the smoke cleared a few minutes later, the supporters in Breda hoped for fireworks on the field. However, the first half was one without spectacle. Big opportunities were not forthcoming and that caused grumbling in the stands.
The fireworks were at the beginning of the second half. NAC soon took the lead through Juho Talvitie. The Finnish technician broke free and scored effectively via the underside of the crossbar: 1-0.
It was not that NAC showed eye-catching football afterwards, but it did appear threatening in front of goalkeeper Jari de Busser’s goal a number of times. The accuracy was lacking in the final phase to achieve a second goal.
Go Ahead Eagles could not show much in Breda for a large part of the match. Fifteen minutes before the end they had their first big chance, but Milan Smit failed to pass Bielica. With attacking substitutions, the guests went for a final offensive in the hope of forcing the equalizer. NAC was under pressure, after which the Breda crowd fully supported the team. There was no change in the score and the third win this season was extensively celebrated by everyone at NAC.
The team is now thirteenth in the Eredivisie and has joined the wide mid-table.
