FC Hansa Rostock remains on the rise in the third division. Thanks to a late goal from Joker Christian Kinsombi, who celebrated a brilliant comeback, the Mecklenburg team managed a 2-2 (1-1) draw against the strong SC Verl on Saturday.

by Bettina Lenner

It felt like a victory for the Kogge, who remained unbeaten for the fourth time in a row, and anyway one of those “of all things” stories that only football writes. Offensive force Kinsombi had been out injured for weeks, but now he scored a deserved point with the last action of the game in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

FC Hansa got off to a perfect start in the game, after the first corner Florian Carstens made it 1-0 from close range in the fifth minute with a direct shot. Verl then visibly showed his class as a player and increased the pressure; it turned into a fast-paced and entertaining third division game with chances on both sides.

Opportunities on both sides

Verl could have equalized in the ninth minute, but after a perfect and quick attack, striker Jonas Arweiler seemed surprised when the ball finally landed quickly at him; he couldn’t get it on goal. In return, the Kogge was on the trigger, Ryan Naderi’s pass found his strike partner Andreas Voglsammer, but Philipp Schulze made a strong save in one-on-one.

A goal was in the air, the only question was which side it would score. It was Verl who finally scored the well-deserved equalizer in the 26th minute. Hansas defender Carstens stumbled on the ball after a pass from Berkan Taz, which is why Verl’s striker Arweiler appeared alone in front of Benjamin Uphoff and coolly slotted in to make it 1-1.

Naderi has twice made it 2-1

Naderi, who was a double goalscorer in last week’s 4-2 win at Viktoria Köln, then twice took Rostock’s lead again. In the 28th minute, Kenan Fatkic put a wonderful header through to Naderi, but he shot just over the goal. Twelve minutes later, the striker appeared alone again in front of SCV goalkeeper Schulze, who once again held up brilliantly. Shortly before and after the break Uphoff was called upon on the other side, who saved twice against Taz (43rd/53rd) and kept the score at 1-1.

It remained a game on a knife’s edge, Hansa’s Marco Schuster’s free kick hit the crossbar (63′). Why Schulze delayed the kick off after the break again and again when the score was 1-1 and slowed down the pace remained a mystery, but it caused whistles in the Ostseestadion.

Kinsombi comes – and scores

FCH coach Daniel Brinkmann wanted to change something again and substituted Kinsombi for Voglsammer in the attack (71′). Verl’s Oualid Mhamdi saved a Carstens shot from the line for his already beaten goalkeeper Schulze (76′).

But the next goal, which had not really been suggested at this stage, came from the other side: after a free kick cross, Martin Ens nodded in to make it 2-1 for the guests (78). The undesirable course of the game from Rostock’s perspective was compounded by the unnecessary fifth yellow card that Ahmet Gürleyen received in stoppage time for complaining. He will therefore be missing next Saturday in Ulm.

Gürleyen, of all people, headed on goal from a corner, Schulze was there, but the ball landed at Kinsombi’s feet – and the proven joker and hero of the day sent the Ostseestadion into ecstasy with his goal.
