Father and son open Surinamese takeaway restaurant: ‘Recipes from my mother, with their own twist’

“We now have a production kitchen here,” says Earl. “We built it in such a way that we could serve at least four or five locations. First in the region, because the logistics have to be right, of course. But if it catches on, we can expand further.”

For now we can enjoy contemporary Surinamese dishes in Zoetermeer, but also in Leidschenveen, Ypenburg and Nootdorp. “These are my mother’s recipes, with her own twist,” says Earl. And when we ask if there is something we really should try, they don’t have to think long. “A special minced meat sandwich!”, they say at the same time. Earl explains: “It’s a sandwich with minced meat, a homemade sweet sauce and lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Everyone who eats this sandwich is immediately sold.” Don adds: “I can really eat it every day.”

Roti for a tenner

Roti Monday, Special Tuesday, Saoto Wednesday… Every day there is a special offer at Soul Kitchen Food. “On Mondays you can get roti here for ten euros,” say father and son. And exclusive to Zoetermeer is the Roti Rollwhich you can get on Thursdays for five euros. “Come and taste it!”

Soul Kitchen Food can be found at Van Leeuwenhoeklaan 8. The takeaway restaurant is open every day from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm (on Sundays from 4:00 pm).
