FC Schalke 04 suffered their third defeat of the season in stoppage time. The Gelsenkirchen team lost 1:2 (0:0) at Karlsruher SC, but will remain leaders at least until the Paderborn game against Fürth on Sunday. Kenan Karaman gave Schalke the lead in the 66th minute with a penalty kick. The KSC won thanks to Marcel Beifus (76th) and Fabian Schleusener (90th + 3).

Both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities for a long time. In the evenly balanced first half, Schalke’s Karaman (40th) and KSC attacker Schleusener (45th + 2) missed the few opportunities.

Even after the change, there was initially little success in terms of football. Things only got livelier after Karaman’s goal, who safely converted the penalty after a foul by Marcel Franke and gave Karlsruhe goalkeeper Hans Christian Bernat no chance with his well-placed shot.

After Schalke took the lead, the host increased the pressure on goalkeeper Loris Karius. Beifus headed the score from a corner to equalize. In the exciting final phase, Schalke missed the chance of victory through Peter Remmert (89th). On the other side, Schleusener did better and scored the KSC winning goal.

A police line formed up in front of the east curve with the Hertha Ultras before kick-off. Initially only security personnel stood in front of the Dynamo blocks, but before the break police officers also appeared there.
