The two passengers were supposed to fly to the Scottish city of Edinburgh, but found out shortly before departure that the passengers would receive a piece of banana bread with almond shavings.

The couple reportedly indicated that they had a nut allergy when booking the tickets, but the spokesperson cannot confirm this.

Turning down a snack is not an option

Simply turning down the snack was not an option for the two. Because the other passengers would receive banana bread, they feared coming into contact with the almond shavings and thus triggering an allergic reaction.

After the crew explained that it was not possible not to offer the rest of the passengers a snack, the couple decided to leave the plane. KLM has reimbursed the couple’s tickets.

Tickets reimbursed

The company has been offering banana bread on some European flights for two years as a sustainable alternative to a cheese sandwich. Portions that have not been served can be reused. Leftover sandwiches should be thrown away after the flight.
