37,000 ‘ghost cars’ in Belgium: what should you do with the license plate of a deceased relative?

A license plate that continues to live, even though the owner no longer does so. In Belgium, there are almost 37,000 ‘ghost cars’ driving around that are still registered in the name of a deceased person. For surviving relatives, this leads to unjustified tax assessments, problems with insurance and administrative burdens. Federal MP Tine Gielis (CD&V) therefore wants to automate the procedure. What exactly should you do with the license plate of a deceased relative?
