He has already been the most successful World Cup rider four times in a row. According to his manager, Marco Odermatt also spends a lot of money on this.
Marco Odermatt is currently the most successful ski racer. The Swiss won the overall World Cup four times in a row and wants to achieve this feat again this Olympic winter. At the start in Sölden last weekend, the 28-year-old immediately achieved his first victory in the giant slalom. His focus is on the season – but Odermatt probably turns down lucrative requests.
His manager Michael Schiendorfer told the Swiss “Tagblatt” in an interview: “Marco is giving up a lot of money.” How much exactly? Schiendorfer then said: “We’re talking about a mid-six-figure amount every year that he could earn more.” The manager would reject requests for the successful ski racer almost every day.
Schiendorfer also explained what exactly he meant. Accordingly, a Kazakh multimillionaire offered the ski ace 150,000 Swiss francs (around 160,000 euros) for two days of skiing with him. Odermatt refused. Much to the delight of his supervisor. “That’s something I love about him,” said Schiendorfer.
“We immediately agreed: We wouldn’t even start with such things. If Marco got bogged down in such obligations, he would never have these successes.” The manager also told the newspaper that Odermatt always schedules his appointments – including those with sponsors – on the same day to save time.
“He can do it, others can’t. Others are nervous when they have a performance. Marco, on the other hand, manages five performances in one day. He wants things done,” says Schiendorfer. Odermatt also prioritizes his health. Success proves him right.
