Play for the title?
Change has been a success: national coach sees DFB women on the right track

Germany’s footballers will face Spain in the Nations League final. A triumph would be a “nice confirmation” for the national coach.
National coach Christian Wück wants to storm to the title with the German footballers in the final of the Nations League against Spain in his own way. “They are not just reigning world champions. They are currently the team that sets standards worldwide – both in playing with the ball and with the individual class they have on the pitch,” said Wück at “dfb.de”.
“We want to close the gap with Spain, but with our own way of playing football. We don’t want to copy them. It should be clear on the pitch who the Spanish team is and who the German team is.” The first leg of the final will take place on November 28th in Kaiserslautern, the second leg on December 2nd in Madrid. Wück expects close encounters – similar to the 0-1 defeat in the European Championship semi-finals in Switzerland in the summer.
“I think there will be two teams meeting where small details will make the difference in the end,” said the DFB coach. For him, Spain is the favorite, but his team consciously accepts this role. Like at the European Championships, they want to set specific accents and make better use of their own phases of possession.
For him, the final is also a “nice confirmation that the change we initiated in October 2024 is on the right track. We can now put a little crown on this,” emphasized Wück. With every success “the conviction that we are able to compete for titles” grows.
