FSV Mainz 05 meets Werder Bremen on Saturday. After six defeats in the league, coach Bo Henriksen’s team is urgently looking for a sense of success.

FSV Mainz 05 wants to end the English week with a winning experience against Werder Bremen. After the series of defeats, including the two defeats in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup against VfB Stuttgart, the Rheinhessen team needs a positive result.

“We are totally ready for Werder. It’s time for us to finally win a game and have a sense of achievement,” said coach Bo Henriksen before the game on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky and DAZN) against Werder Bremen.

Despite the defeats against Stuttgart, he has a good feeling that the team presented itself better. “We had a lot of power and energy and ran an awful lot. We just have to do better in the final third. That also applies at the back,” said the Dane.

In the league there are six defeats with just one win and one draw. With four points, Mainz are stuck in the bottom of the table. “But if you look at the expected goal value, we should actually have 10.3 points. That makes me confident and shows that not everything is bad,” emphasized Henriksen.

As at the beginning of his time in Mainz around a year and a half ago, Henriksen is in demand as a motivator. The 50-year-old remains authentic and doesn’t bend. “I couldn’t do that either. I’m always positive. We talk a lot, they get their freedom and I also show my heart,” says the coach.

It is important that the players appear free. He tries to take the pressure off his protégés. “They have to play as if they were five. They should just have fun, even if we all know that it’s a difficult phase,” said Henriksen, who can draw on the full range of personnel.
