After leaving Mönchengladbach, Gerardo Seoane takes over the Young Boys from Bern again. A former Bundesliga professional is the sports director there.

Gerardo Seoane has found a new club a month and a half after being released from Borussia Mönchengladbach – and with an old friend. The Swiss will once again take over the coaching position at Young Boys Bern, where he already worked very successfully between 2018 and 2021.

The 47-year-old has signed a contract with the current fifth-placed team in the Super League until the summer of 2028. The club announced this on Friday. Seoane succeeds Giorgio Contini, who was previously released.

The former Bundesliga coach is no stranger to Bern: in his first term in office, he led the club to three championships and one cup victory. The connection was never broken, as he himself emphasized. “YB is a very special club for me,” Seoane is quoted as saying in the club’s statement. The return triggered “positive emotions” in him.

In Mönchengladbach, Seoane was released at the end of September after the 4-0 defeat against Werder Bremen. His successor there was Eugen Polanski. Before his time in Gladbach, Seoane had already trained Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

YB sports director Christoph Spycher described Seoane as a dream solution and announced that he would embark on a long-term project with him. The club is currently in a difficult phase, said the former Eintracht Frankfurt professional. “With him a new cycle begins, even if we do not expect miracles and are aware that we are in a delicate situation,” said Spycher. Young Boys’ first game under Seoane is on Sunday – at home against champions FC Basel.
