This year the Champions League final took place in Munich. And if UEFA has its way, this will be the case again in less than three years.

The chances are good that Munich will host the Champions League final again in 2028. As UEFA confirmed, the Allianz Arena is currently the only candidate for the premier class final in two and a half years.

The application is currently non-binding. The city still has to submit official documents and a detailed concept to UEFA by June 2026. The decision will then be made by the association’s executive committee in September 2026.

For Munich it would be the sixth Champions League final. The final was last played in the Allianz Arena in 2025 – Paris Saint-Germain won 5-0 against Inter Milan. The stadium was also the venue for the “Finale at home” in 2012, which FC Bayern lost on penalties against Chelsea FC. Three other finals have previously taken place in the Olympic Stadium.

This year’s final will take place in Budapest, and Madrid will host in 2026. London (Wembley) and Barcelona (Camp Nou) have registered their interest for 2029.
