Eintracht Frankfurt stabilized revenues last season at almost record levels. Qualifying for the Champions League still resulted in a loss of millions.
It sounds stupid, but it’s actually true: Because Eintracht Frankfurt qualified for the Champions League last season, the Hessians’ overall result for 2024/25 shows a loss of 8.3 million euros. CFO Julien Zamberk announced this at a press conference on Thursday.
“Without getting into the Champions League we would have had a positive result. But no one would have been happy if we had missed out on the premier class,” said the 37-year-old. Firstly, he is of course right and secondly, he was able to explain the strange mathematics behind the loss-making business.
An investment in the future
Eintracht rewarded the players with appropriate bonuses immediately after reaching the Champions League. However, the income from the premier class, which is expected to be around 50 to 60 million euros, will only flow into the Hessians’ account this season. The loss-making business from last season can therefore be viewed as a hopefully worthwhile investment in the future.
“We can definitely afford the loss because we can cover it with our equity,” said Zamberk, further classifying the loss. The Hessians still had 51.7 million euros in reserve in the summer of 2024. And because in May too the not entirely uncontroversial capital increase of 25.7 million euros has been implemented, the SGE no longer needs to worry about money. New account balance: 69 million euros.
The Ekitiké millions are also still missing
The club is still “on a sporting and economic growth path,” said the CFO. Eintracht achieved sales of 389.1 million euros in the 2024/25 season. That was only 1.4 million euros less than in the previous record season. There are many indications that things will go well financially again in the current season.
Zamberk can not only look forward to the aforementioned Champions League income, but is also already planning on the income from the sale of star striker Hugo Ekitiké. The Frenchman’s 95 million euro transfer to Liverpool FC will only be recorded in the balance sheet for this season. For comparison: the total sales of the last season amount to 118.6 million euros.
