Thanks also to Nick Woltemade’s next goal, Newcastle United reached the quarter-finals of the English EFL Cup. In the 2-0 (1-0) win against Tottenham Hotspur, the German international scored the final score in the 50th minute in front of a home crowd. Fabian Schär (24th) had put defending champions Newcastle in the lead.
After a cross from Joe Willock, Woltemade got to the ball in front of the Spurs keeper and made full use of his 1.98 meter height. For the 23-year-old it was the sixth goal in his eleventh appearance for the Magpies.
The troubled English champions FC Liverpool, however, suffered their next sporting setback with their exit in the round of 16.
