Not all the results have been received yet, but this morning we can already largely take stock. The PVV was by far the largest party in 2023, but the relations in the province are slightly different after yesterday.

There is no absolute winner now that the votes have been counted. The PVV is the largest in four municipalities (Emmen, Borger-Odoorn, Hoogeveen and Midden-Drenthe). D66 received the most votes in Assen, Meppel and Tynaarlo and the VVD can call itself the winner in Westerveld, De Wolden and Aa en Hunze

If you look deeper at the results, it becomes clear that the results are close to each other. In Emmen, PVV’s victory is large, 29.2 percent compared to 12.3 percent of number 2 VVD. The biggest differences between numbers 1 and 2 after Emmen are in the municipality of Tynaarlo. But here D66 has less than five percent more than the number two GroenLinks-PvdA. The differences are therefore generally very small.

With the exception of the municipality of De Wolden (here BBB is in 5th place) and Hoogeveen (FVD in 5th), the five largest parties are the same in every municipality. D66, PVV, VVD, GroenLinks-Pvda and CDA are in charge.

In the shadow of the big five parties, JA21 and FVD will be extremely happy with the result. Both parties are growing in all Drenthe municipalities, often doubling or even tripling compared to two years ago. Judging from the PVV’s losses, most voters seem to be moving away from this party.
