In the preliminary forecast for the House of Representatives elections, D66 is in the lead with 27 seats. And that victory is also celebrated within the Drenthe branch of the party. “It is a dream that has become reality,” says Anry Kleine Deters, party leader of D66 in the Provincial Council.

“I’m not easily silent, but this really makes me silent. This result is really unbelievable,” she responds. “I am so proud that the voter has again chosen an optimistic future.”

“It’s really a big party. Rob (Jetten, ed.) radiated in everything that he is optimistic and wants to make important choices for the future,” Kleine Deters continues. “It is a great compliment to the voters that they also show an optimistic voice and confidence for the future.”

The (provisional) victory will also be celebrated by Deters tonight. “My phone is completely blowing up. So we have to celebrate this first tonight. We have to first fully understand what this result means and then we get to work.”

The provisional result was a big setback for PvdA Drenthe, says chairman Inge Oosting. “We had hoped for a better result, but polls two weeks before the elections apparently do not say enough.” According to Oosting, you see a shift in politics. “People make tactical choices on such an election night.”

According to her, party leader Frans Timmermans made the right choice to resign. “I understand that he chooses to stop at this moment, even though he is someone with capacity.”

“It is now up to the parties to polder in the national interest, there must be a stable cabinet.” And she is clear about the role of her own party. “Social democracy must remain important, it will become significant again. GroenLinks-PvdA must not lose that.”
