Before FC Bayern’s game at 1. FC Cologne, Max Eberl answers questions in the first. Until suddenly time runs out – and he has to reprimand the ARD presenter.

DFB Cup, 2nd round. Big game at 1. FC Köln in front of a sold-out crowd. For FC Bayern, it’s about keeping the dream of their first cup win since 2020 alive in the duel with the Bundesliga club. Munich sports director Max Eberl also emphasized this before the game in a conversation with ARD reporter Alex Schlüter and expert Bastian Schweinsteiger – and had to cut the journalist off somewhat harshly. Because: Time was running out before kick-off in the Rheinenergie Stadium.

Schlüter wanted to ask the 52-year-old about his goals with coach Vincent Kompany after the contract extension: “What’s on paper remains between you in detail anyway, but: What have you agreed between yourself about what else is to come with a view to the future, if I now look at the precious metal, for example?” asked Schlüter.

Eberl’s unmistakable answer to this: “Alex, don’t be angry, but three minutes before kick-off the question now… honestly,” the Bayern man said in a friendly but clear tone. And further: “We want to play the cup game now and don’t talk about the visions that Vinnie (Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, editor’s note) and I discussed when extending the contract,” Eberl continued and ended the conversation on his own.

Schlüter’s reaction: “Then we’ll arrange to meet later.” Eberl then said goodbye to the moderator and Schweinsteiger, while the teams slowly lined up in the background.
