The Dallas Cowboys were badly dismantled in their NFL duel with the Denver Broncos (24:44) on Sunday. According to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, this performance is not without consequences, especially for the defense.

Defense has been the Cowboys’ Achilles’ heel throughout the season. In Denver, it once again lived up to its bad reputation. For example, the pass rush didn’t even manage to sack Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, which is just one of many reasons for the 426 yards allowed.

Brian Schottenheimer revealed on Monday that the miserable performance would have consequences for his defense. “There are always reasons for change and there will be changes,” affirmed the Cowboys coach. “I can promise you that. We have already met and discussed these changes.”

Dallas ranks 32nd in the NFL in yards allowed per play and is only slightly better in yards and points allowed (31st each). These numbers obviously reflect poorly on defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

But Schottenheimer didn’t want to blame the 55-year-old exclusively for the slap in Denver because: “If you look at the game, I don’t think any of us played well or coached well.”

NFL: Cowboys coach wants to use bye week

The Cowboys HC probably didn’t want to use his statements to attack Eberflus. In his eyes, however, now is the perfect time to make major corrections. “I only say that because we only play Arizona before our bye week and major changes will be made to our style of play in the bye week,” Schottenheimer emphasized.

According to his own statement, the long-time assistant coach already knows what adjustments he wants to make during this time.

“The solution is to adjust the scheme, make personnel changes – give the players a little more time and all that,” said Schottenheimer and assured: “These things will work themselves out.”
