“We’ve been talking about it for a while”
German cyclist has nose surgery

The German cyclist Florian Lipowitz is one of the biggest whiz kids of the season. But minor infections regularly stop him. That should change.
Florian Lipowitz has undergone a surgical procedure on the nasal septum. As the 25-year-old explained on the ARD podcast “Tourfunk”, the operation had been planned for some time. Now the early start to the off-season presented itself as a suitable moment.
The third in this year’s Tour de France and rider for the German racing team “Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe” repeatedly suffered from infections – especially in the nose area. The man from Ulm said he hoped the situation would improve as a result of the operation.
Lipowitz contested his last races in mid-September at the double start in Quebec and Montreal. He is now back on the bike. He has been back in training “for two or three days”. After a six-week break, the form is not yet at the usual level. Nevertheless, Lipowitz was optimistic that she would return quickly.
Lipowitz used the time off from training to go on holiday in South Tyrol – together with her friend Antonia Weeger, who is also active in cycling, but in the mountain bike sector. “We had a good time there for a week,” he said.
Lipowitz currently completes ten to twelve hours of training per week. The main thing is to find your rhythm again without overloading your body. “You don’t want to cause yourself knee pain straight away,” said the former biathlete.
