Benjamin Mascolo talks about spontaneous abortions: “We lost two children”
Benji’s post starts from an anecdote reported by a man who survived a heart operation: «A man, who survived a risky heart operation, said that in the few minutes in which he was clinically dead he had seen Heaven. He said that there, parents meet and live with their unborn children. That mothers can raise those children lost during pregnancy.” The singer takes up the idea with honesty: «It’s difficult to believe it, especially because science doesn’t confirm it. And maybe I’ll never know if it’s true. I don’t even know if, at the end of the credits, I will really find myself in that place where they say the pure in spirit rest.” Yet, he adds, «they say that in Heaven parents know and live with their unborn children. It’s hard to believe, but part of me hopes so». It is precisely this hope that becomes the underlying theme of the message.
Perinatal mourning, “the pain of losing something you already love”
«When it happens», the singer’s post continues, «you are afraid to talk about it: you fear not being understood, or worse, being judged. You wonder if there was a mistake, if it was too early or too late. But only those who have really been through it know what I’m talking about». Words that photograph the taboo that still surrounds spontaneous abortions, especially among men. Benjamin Mascolo does not hide the fact that he experienced that sense of guilt and impotence: “I felt how painful it is to lose something that you already love, but which didn’t have the opportunity to be fulfilled.”
Two deaths, two different reactions
The first loss was faced with a supporting role: «The first time I used all my strength to console my wife». Greta Cuoghi, married to Mascolo since 2023, was the center of his world at that moment. The second, however, hit him in an unpredictable way: «It arrived so suddenly that, After leaving the doctor’s office, I crouched down on the sidewalk in the center of Milan — a few steps from a church — with my face buried between my knees and her trying, with all her strength, to keep me upright.” A raw, almost cinematic image, which makes the fragility of a man accustomed to the spotlight palpable.

The daughter of Benji Mascolo and Greta Cuoghi: Athena, the light after the darkness
Athena was born on October 7, after announcing her pregnancy in July. «The birth of our daughter healed those wounds, but the scars remained» confesses Mascolo. The arrival of the little girl transformed the pain into a more conscious love: “The love I feel today, in holding my daughter in my hands, also comes from that fear of losing her before she even arrived.”
The hope of meeting unborn children
The post ends with a declaration of personal faith: «Perhaps this is why I hope, with all my soul, that that gentleman told the truth. That there really is a place where I can meet those children I never had the chance to love on this earth. And even if it were just an illusion, I still want to believe it. Because within that desire to see them again there is my most sincere faith: the one that is born from pain and gratitude mixed together.”
