Tim Hornke won everything there is to win with SC Magdeburg. He won Olympic silver in the national team. Now one thing is certain: the right wing will soon stop.
Tim Hornke will end his handball career after this Bundesliga season. SC Magdeburg announced this on Tuesday. The 35-year-old is drawing a line in the sand after a successful career.
“After many intensive and wonderful years of handball, I have decided to end my career after this season. SC Magdeburg was and is a very special club for me that has shaped me both athletically and personally. I am incredibly grateful for the time we spent together, for my teammates, coaches, the entire environment and of course our fans,” said Hornke in the club’s announcement.
The left-hander played a total of 466 times in the Bundesliga and scored 1,492 goals. With the SCM he celebrated numerous titles, including the German championship, the DHB Cup, the Champions League, the European League and the IHF Super Globe.
“Tim is one of the last players I actively played with. Maybe that’s why it was so difficult for me to accept his decision straight away,” said SCM coach Bennet Wiegert.
Hornke appeared in 23 international matches for the German national team and scored 53 goals. At the 2024 Olympic Games in France he won the silver medal with the DHB team, but had to end the tournament after the opening game against Sweden after a foot injury. He recently no longer played a role in the national team.
Hornke was active at SC Magdeburg in two phases: After moving from Hannover-Burgdorf in 2010, he played for the club for four years and returned in 2019 after a time at TBV Lemgo Lippe.
