Alti Forth tells about her childhood in Akuuti.
Alti Forth’s father died of cancer when Alti was 3 years old. The family’s everyday life turned into a struggle for survival, where Alti became the bearer of responsibility, even though he was the youngest member of the family. Tero Kyllönen, General
Dad died of cancer when Alti Forth was 3 years old. After that, the mother was diagnosed with severe depression, which affected the life of the entire family of three.
At only 10 years old, Alti took responsibility for his family, including financially. Among other things, he paid bills and thought about how he could make money to ease his family’s situation. The balance of the bank account was well known to Alt and a matter of great concern.

Alti did not dare to leave her mother alone, even though her sister and brother went on their own.
– My mother used to say that without us children she would have jumped off the balcony with a rope around her neck.
Alti recalls that her mother showed very little emotion.
– He was stone-faced, Alti describes.
The family had different rules to live by.
– Touching the mother was forbidden, Alti surprises Risto Kuusisto.

Even though the father’s death was a real turning point in the lives of Alt and the rest of the family, the mother had various doubts already. Because of them, Alt’s right hand was left untreated. Alti was born with a head and an arm at the same time, as a result of which he has a congenital disability.
– My mother was suspicious of everyone on the hospital staff, which led to my hand never being treated.
In her twenties, Alt herself was diagnosed with depression. He has also been diagnosed with a demanding personality disorder. Currently, Alti takes psychological medication for anxiety and also takes care of herself with exercise. Peer support has also helped, especially when the first child was still a small baby.
