On Sunday (March 27) Sting surprised the audience of his musical “Last Ship” in Lübeck. After the official performance, the master himself took the stage and announced the title “Russians”: “I will now sing a song that I wrote in 1984 during the cold war. Sort of a historical document and I never thought it would ever be relevant again.”

It was a very special start to his tour in Germany and neighboring countries. Actually, he was supposed to present “My Songs” in Leipzig on the same evening. Instead, the spontaneous visit to the coast. The first tour dates had to be postponed. Reason: Corona diseases in the live team of the 70-year-old.

Sting concerts are to be rescheduled

It was briefly announced on Instagram that his concerts in Leipzig, Luxembourg, Hamburg and Dijon, France, could not take place. Efforts are being made to find alternative dates as soon as possible.

Fans are asked to keep their tickets pending new information. “We apologize for the inconvenience. Other show dates are currently unaffected,” the statement said. Sting’s upcoming Germany concerts on April 11 in Oberhausen and April 13 in Cologne should therefore take place.

Corona continues to have a strong influence on the tour business

The cancellation of the Sting gigs at short notice highlights the still fragile situation in live events. “We’re still a long way from over the hill,” was the message of the last Focus Session of the Reeperbahn Festival, which dealt with current concert events.

Even if some tours are already running more or less regularly, the situation in the clubs is often still tense. Short-term failures, staff and technician shortages and a hesitant return of the audience mean for the scene that the pandemic is far from over.
