From the US adventure to the Scottish football soul: Ex-goalkeeper Pfannenstiel is moving to FC Aberdeen, where a lot of work awaits him.

A few months after his departure as sports director at US club St. Louis City, Lutz Pfannenstiel is taking on a new role. As FC Aberdeen announced, the former soccer goalkeeper is joining the traditional Scottish club in the same role as in St. Louis. The 52-year-old will officially start working for the penultimate side of the Scottish Premiership on November 10th.

“FC Aberdeen has what many clubs around the world can only dream of – a rich tradition, an eventful history and a real football soul,” said Pfannenstiel, according to the statement. He is looking forward to being able to contribute his many years of experience there. Pfannenstiel has already worked in management positions at TSG Hoffenheim and Fortuna Düsseldorf, among others.

The Bavarian native was released as sports director in St. Louis at the end of August. Previously, he was the strong man for the team that was newly founded in the summer of 2020 for five years.
