The collision took place in Halfweg in North Holland, at the railway crossing on Wethouder van Essenweg. An event ambulance, which serves to provide event visitors with quick medical assistance, was on the track. It is still unclear how the vehicle came to stand there, according to the police. The driver has been taken in for an explanation.
The two hundred occupants of the train were taken to Haarlem by an evacuation train. “There were approximately 200 passengers on the train. They had to be evacuated by incident response. That is quite an operation, especially because you want to do that in a safe way,” the ProRail spokesperson told Heart of the Netherlands.
