The TV program Le Iene intercepts the host and the world number 2 after the controversies of recent days. Here’s how it went

It’s peace between Bruno Vespa and Jannik Sinner. The host of Porta a Porta had harshly criticized the number two in the world on X, a few days ago, for having given up on the final stages of the Davis Cup. Intercepted by the program Le Iene (broadcast tonight in prime time on Italia 1), Vespa partially recanted, without however completely forgiving the tennis player’s choice to skip the appointment with the national team in Bologna. “But yes, come on Sinner! Except that he should play the Davis Cup! I root for him even in spite of myself at times, because… in short, he plays beautiful tennis, but he has to play the Davis Cup, I won’t forgive him for that!” explained the journalist. And again: “Also because he will then go and play another exhibition (in Korea, before the Australian Open). They play in all the tournaments, they do very well, they earn what they want, but I will never forgive someone who doesn’t play the Davis Cup to take an extra week of vacation. Did he make us win the last two Davis Cups? Oh, I understand, he could have made us win the third too!”.

sinner’s reply

The first gesture of relaxation came from Vespa himself, who also accepted and ate a carrot, a symbol representing the tennis player and his fandom, offered by Le Iene correspondent Stefano Corti. Action calls for reaction. Sinner, who in the press conference had made it clear that he accepted the criticism of his choice (“but I have already said everything”), was stopped by Corti himself, equipped with an Italian flag. Intercepted in front of his hotel in Vienna, where he celebrated the title victory against Alexander Zverev in the final, Jannik was asked to autograph the tricolor: “To Bruno, with love… Bruno Vespa”. And the South Tyrolean champion did not hold back: “To Bruno, with love!”, wrote the Red Fox. Between carrots and dedications, therefore, the truce has been signed: now Vespa cheers and Sinner smiles.
