Stellar athletics, as per tradition, at very fast Valencia half marathon. This time the two winners are the Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha and the Kenyan Agnes Jebet Ngetichdespite having run at very fast pace, did not improve their world records. Instead, it collapsed European male record by the Swede Andreas Almgren announced in great form already on the eve of the race.

Valencia Half Marathon 2025: results of the WOMEN’S RACE

The smell of a record almost to the finish line for the Kenyan Agnes Jebet Ngetich who, arriving at the finish line in 1.03.08, missed out 16 seconds off the world record of 1.02.52 set in 2019again in Valencia in 2019 by the Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey. To tell the truth, Ngetich herself had also tried in the 2024 edition of Valenica, running even faster than today in 1.03.04. Incredible rhythms for a woman. Less than 3 minutes per kilometre. Behind her on the podium is the Ethiopian Fotyen Tesfay (1.05.11) and the Kenyan Veronica Loleo (1.05.46). National records for the Slovenian Klara Lukan 1.08.04 and for the transalpine route Alessia Zarbo (1.08.20). The blue one Elisa Palmerowho was running under Sofia Yaremchuk’s national record, then retired after the fifteenth kilometer.

MEN’S RACE

Race dominated in 58.02 by the Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha who thus achieved a trio of victories in Valencia. The world record of 56.42 set last February in Barcelona by the Ugandan is unassailable Jacob Kiplimo. Kejelcha was hoping to do better than his previous world record of 57.30 achieved in 2024 in Valencia. But he still had a prestigious success ahead of the Burundian Rodrigue Kwizera and to the Kenyan Brian Kibor both credited with the same time of 58.39. The Swede Andreas Almgren then arrived just behind with 58.41, thus setting the new European record. The previous one belonged to the Swiss Julien Wanders who in 2019 ran the Ras Al Khaimah half marathon in 59.13.

ALMGREN STORY

All to be discovered is the long-distance crescendo of the thirty-year-old Swede Almgren who, in terms of training, follows the Ingebrigtsen brothers’ tables. When he was a junior, that is, ten years ago, the Nordic cross-country skier seemed destined to wreak havoc in the 800 meters. He had in fact run the double lap of the track in 1.45.51 and then came third, over the same distance, at the 2015 world championships in Eugene. Well, fifteen years later, we find him the European record holder in the 5000 meters with 12.44.27. European 10km road record holder in 26.53. Now also the continental half marathon record holder in 58.41. As icing on the cake, the world bronze in the 10,000m won at the recent world championships in Tokyo. Thus implementing a sort of Copernican revolution in terms of preparation and kilometers covered in training. In every sense.
