He rode a time of 57.681 on the cycling track of the Chilean capital Santiago. The British Joseph Truman recorded the second fastest time (58.807). He was slightly faster than Jeffrey Hoogland (58.962), who qualified as third rider.

Lavreysen has his sights set on four world titles in Santiago. The Brabander became world champion in the team sprint with Roy van den Berg and Jeffrey Hoogland on Wednesday and won the global title in the keirin on Thursday. He can become sprint champion for the seventh time next weekend.
Wiebes wins the first part of the omnium
Lorena Wiebes started well in the omnium at the Track Cycling World Championships in Chile. On the slopes of the capital Santiago, the 26-year-old native of Mijdrecht was the best in the scratch section.

Wiebes received 40 points for her victory. The Danish Amalie Dideriksen came second and has 38 points, followed by the Belgian number 3 Shari Bossuyt (36 points).
Wiebes extended her world title on Wednesday in the non-Olympic scratch event. The omnium has three more parts: the tempo race, elimination race and points race.
