World Championship leader Oscar Piastri is firmly expecting the next attack from Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen and Red Bull at the Mexican Grand Prix (Sunday, 9 p.m./Sky).
“I am sure that they will be a threat again this weekend,” said McLaren driver Piastri on Thursday.
Verstappen has won three of the last four races and suddenly has a real chance of winning his fifth world title again. Piastri’s lead over the Dutchman has shrunk to 40 points after several mixed performances. McLaren teammate Lando Norris is only 14 points behind.
Verstappen and Red Bull had already shown strong performances over the course of the season, but have now “clearly found consistency, that cannot be denied and is a bit surprising for us,” said Piastri: “Max is there, he is fighting for the title, but ultimately that doesn’t change how I approach my races.”
