Connie Witteman is absolutely not happy with the cover of the latest Story. The diva speaks of ‘mood-mongering’ and asks her followers not to fall for it. “It’s wrong!”
The latest Story has Connie Witteman and her husband, soft drug magnate Henk de Vries, on the cover. ‘Actress Famke Janssen gives Connie Witteman UNREST in her life with great love Henk’, reads the headline. What is it about? The new Netflix title Amsterdam Empire, a series about a soft drugs magnate in which Famke plays a role.
‘Based on me!’
Henk, the founder of soft drugs chain The Bulldog, strongly feels that the series is based on him. The baron followed in the series runs the coffee shop The Jackal, English for jackal, a canine like the bulldog. “The makers rented a building on the Zeedijk in Amsterdam, where I was born, and started filming there.”
He continues in the Story: “They opened a so-called coffee shop a hundred meters away from my first coffee shop on the Voorburgwal in Amsterdam. They also filmed in The Hague, where I had a company, and on the Baambrugse Zuwe in Vinkeveen, where I lived.”

What is also striking is that the wife of the coffee hop boss in the series also has a past as a singer, just like Henk’s beloved Connie. “I absolutely don’t want Connie to be drawn into a project about my life. She is completely outside of that,” he fumes.
In order to distinguish fact from fiction, Henk hastily released his biography early. This contains a long ode to Henk’s deceased wife. He wrote that ode before he got into a relationship with Connie. “The words about my deceased wife may not be the most beautiful paragraphs for Connie, but I wrote it with my heart at the time.”

In retrospect, Henk is disappointed that he did not put Connie in the spotlight more in his book. He said he should have done that ‘much more’. And hence the headline on the Story cover: ‘Famke Janssen gives Connie Witteman UNREST in her life with great love Henk.’
Exaggerated, Connie thinks. She writes down Instagram: “MOT MAKING!! Let me be clear about this: this rumor is completely false. In fact, they don’t even know each other!”
Own life
Connie thinks that the Story suggests all kinds of things that are not the case. “Such a publication can sometimes take on a ‘life of its own’, but in this case there is simply no connection with reality whatsoever!”
