Jamal Musiala is taking his first steps back onto the training pitch after his serious injury. At FC Bayern there is growing hope of a return this year.

A small but important step back on the pitch: Jamal Musiala completed his first training session on Säbener Straße around three and a half months after his serious injury. The 22-year-old worked individually on Thursday – with coordination exercises and running laps.

Sky and “Image” showed short video excerpts from the rehabilitation program of the national player, who suffered a dislocated ankle and a fracture of the fibula at the Club World Cup at the beginning of July. It remains unclear when the offensive player can return to full team training.

Sports director Max Eberl recently expressed the “serious hope” that Musiala and Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito, who were also injured, could be on the pitch this year.

Sports director Christoph Freund was a little more cautious after the 4-0 win in the Champions League against Bruges. “It will take a while,” he said, but also emphasized that things are “making progress” and “look positive.” Musiala can now put full weight on his foot again.

Musiala himself is eager to return. Basically, an injury like this is “also an opportunity to get to know your body better and thus gain experience. It’s about using setbacks to come back stronger,” he recently emphasized. He believes “you learn a lot of things during an injury. For example, I see how much fun you have otherwise and how much I love football.”

Bayern, but also national coach Julian Nagelsmann, have high hopes for the magic foot. Especially at the World Cup next year, the DFB team’s focus will be on Musiala.
