Harry Kane talks about a contract extension at FC Bayern. And above all, he wants a teammate at his side for “many more years.”

On Tuesday, FC Bayern announced the coup that the record champions had achieved by extending the contract with head coach Vincent Kompany until 2029. Board boss Jan-Christian Dreesen said explicitly: “The extension is also a signal to our players.”

The bosses’ hope is clear: the stars should now take their coach as a role model and also commit to becoming record champions in the long term. This wish applies above all to star striker Harry Kane. The 32-year-old’s contract is valid until 2027, but it also includes an exit clause for the coming summer, which the captain of the England national team can activate by January.

Will Kane also let Kompany’s commitment to Bayern influence his own future plans? “Kompany is a big part of the club and an important part of why I enjoy being here so much. The extension is great news,” said Kane when asked after the 4-0 win in the Champions League against Club Brugge. “Vinnie is important and it’s good to know that he now has such a long contract. When the talks start, we’ll see what happens.”

Kane had recently signaled that he could imagine a longer-term future in Munich, announced corresponding talks with Bayern – and thus left the door wide open for a possible contract extension. Now he became even more specific and even gave a timetable for it.

“The talks won’t happen next month, but maybe in the new year,” Kane said. “Then we’ll discuss it. We’re in a good position, I feel good. We’re not panicking. I’m not and I don’t think the club is either.”

Will Bayern also be able to reach agreement on a contract extension with Kane in a similarly secret, quiet and successful manner? Dreesen had already recently announced that he wanted to approach Kane “at an appropriate time”.

In any case, the 100 million deal that Bayern entered into with Kane’s transfer from Tottenham to Munich in the summer of 2023 has already paid off in full from the Munich team’s point of view. Kane breaks one record after the next at Bayern. He scored 105 goals for Bayern in 108 competitive games at a record pace. After twelve competitive games this season he already has 20 goals. He also sometimes impresses as a playmaker and leader on and off the field.
