David versus Goliath: that’s how you could describe Bayern Münchern-Club Brugge. Yet the first chance was for the people of Bruges. Carlos Forbs came up on the right, Sabbe’s shot had to be harder to surprise Neuer.
It did not take long before the German machine gained steam. Debutant Korl, no less than 17 years old, was given too much space in midfield, 1-0.
However, Bruges did create opportunities. Tzolis walked towards Neuer all alone, even though the experienced German had anticipated it for a long time and was on the ball earlier.
Then Bayern shifted up a gear. Laimer was able to pass the ball far too easily to the inevitable Harry Kane, who simply tapped in: 2-0 after barely fifteen minutes.
Vanaken tried to take Club into tow. A few sly through balls towards Tzolis, but the Greek wanted to go to his better judge too often. He also hesitated too long on Audoor’s ball.
However, Kompany’s troops did not let go of the accelerator. On the half hour Karl was able to make it 3-0, but his ball went wide. A few minutes later, Diaz succeeded. He showed Ordonez stars and then kicked the ball past Jackers hard via the crossbar.
It must be said. Club kept trying. Tzolis cut inside in his trademark fashion and pulled the trigger. Neuer was able to save the situation quite easily.
To prevent the score from rising too high and to protect the goal difference, Nicky Hayen put one more defender on the field in the second half. Carlos Forbs was allowed to make way for Jorne Spileers. Sabbe also disappeared from the right flank, in his place came Siquet. Spileers came in well. Diaz could easily put in a falling ball if it weren’t for Spileers just keeping it off the line and thus keeping the 4-0 off the board.
A few minutes later, Spileers was in the lead again. He blocked Laimer’s shot well, but was unlucky that the ball ended up right at Jackson’s feet. He didn’t hesitate and easily scored the 4-0 final score. No shame for the people of Bruges, this Bayern Munich is simply a bully.
