Just before 12 noon, a contractor hit the gas pipeline in Shaagstraat during excavation work. The street is partially closed and a dozen local residents have been evacuated. A residential care center in the area does not need to be evacuated because the wind is favorable.
The teams of grid operator Fluvius arrive on site to close the leak. Because it is a medium pressure pipe, this may take a while.
