Kalle Palander recalled his days in Gämblers Cast. Sami Kuusivirta

Kalle Palander served in the army in the spring of 1999 after the slalom world championship. The man remembered his time in India In Gämblers Cast.

I remember one letter in particular, in which Palander was told the big news:

– My first daughter Mathilde had started in Norway, says Palander.

The child’s mother said in the letter that she is pregnant and wants to keep the baby. Palander panicked and started to think about the alpine guy Sami Uotilan with how to act.

– Now I’m pissed. How do I get it to abort?

Palander, in his twenties, told Uotila to send the woman an email because Uotila knew Norwegian. Palander started dictating the message, Uotila acted as scribe.

Soon the men realized that they were already late for lunch. The alpine duo started running. A sergeant was waiting at the canteen door. The delay had to be explained to him.

– The reason for the delay: an abortion application, Palander said he had announced.

Although the explanation was true, judging by Palander’s comments, the sergeant did not believe it. However, he let the alpine youths inside to eat.

– Think about it, when 4–5 years later it came out that Kalle has a 4-year-old daughter Mathilde, that dude [alikersantti] must have looked in the newspaper that “no god, they must have really applied for an abortion then”, laughs Palander.
