Extension in sight thanks to clause?

The strong performances of Christopher Antwi-Adjei, who only managed three goals last year, are one of the reasons for Schalke 04’s good start to the season and second place. With one goal and one assist, the 31-year-old has almost surpassed his tally from the previous year after just eight match days in the 2nd Bundesliga and wants to stay for a long time despite his contract expiring.
“Schalke is a great club,” Antwi-Adjei is quoted by “WAZ”. “I already wore Schalke jerseys when I wasn’t playing here yet. I would like to stay if everything fits.” The will of the winger, who moved from VfL Bochum to Gelsenkirchen in the summer of 2024, means that staying will not fail. However, there have not yet been any discussions about an extension. “We’re still early, so much can still happen.”
Schalke may not have to worry about a free transfer anyway – especially if things continue as successfully as before in the coming months. According to “Sport Bild”, thanks to a clause, Antwi-Adjei’s working paper would be automatically extended if Schalke succeeds in promotion and the offensive force plays at least 20 games. Bets lasting less than 45 minutes count as half a bet. With five starting eleven appearances and three substitutions (one of them at half-time), there are already seven games in the balance.
