The “Zebras” clearly put the Polish club Ostrovia Ostrow in their place at halftime and ultimately won 34:21 (16:9). The “Recken” presented themselves equally confidently, defeating HT Tatran Presov from Slovakia with 40:28 (22:15).

The two German clubs don’t have much time to catch their breath. The THW has to play VfL Gummersbach in the Bundesliga on Thursday, while the “Recken” host SC Magdeburg on Sunday. Things won’t continue on the international stage until November 11th. Then the “Zebras” will be in Bern, H.-Burgdorf will meet IK Sävehof.

Kiel clearly dominates…

It took Kiel a while to get into the usual flow against the guests, who initially played courageously offensively. But the “Zebras” remained patient and then straightened out the balance of power with a 9-0 run (22nd/13:4). Outstanding: Captain Domagoj Duvnjak, who defended far up front and repeatedly won balls and initiated quick attacks.

Coach Filip Jicha was able to start the rotation early and rest the regulars. Nevertheless, we went into the break with a comfortable 16:9.

… and stay focused

In contrast to the game against Montpellier, which was almost similar until the 40th minute, the THW did not give up this lead. Kiel kept the pressure high and was mercilessly effective in front of the goal. Rasmus Ankermann took the first eleven-goal lead (41st/23:12). Only then did the hosts take it easy, but still extended their significant lead. The North Germans’ best throwers were Nikola Bilyk and Rasmus Ankermann with six hits each.

“Stretch” again with Uscins

Renas Uscins

Celebrated his comeback in the European Cup: Renars Uscins.

Hannover-Burgdorf got off to a perfect start against Presov. After just eight minutes, the hosts had taken a four-goal lead (5:1). Short phases of carelessness did not upset coach Christian Prokop’s team – after 24 minutes the score was 16:11.

Even more important for Prokop than the reassuring lead was the comeback of Renars Uscins. Four weeks after his hand injury, the national player was fit for action again and contributed three goals to the 22:15 half-time lead.

Hanover leaves no room for doubt

After the restart, Maxim Orlov quickly increased the lead – the 23-year-old was responsible for the first nine-goal lead a short time later (39th/27:18). With three goals in a row, Sindre Ande Aho increased the lead to 32:21 (47th).

The game was over long ago, the home team left no stone unturned and confidently managed their second win in their second game on the European stage. Uscins as well as August Baskar Pedersen and Aho were the most successful throwers in Lower Saxony with five hits each.
