The German record champions want to follow the path with coach Vincent Kompany in the long term. The Belgian’s working paper was extended early.

He will stay until June 2029: Vincent Kompany. The FC Bayern coach has extended his contract early by two years. The club announced this on Tuesday. The previous working paper would have expired in summer 2027.

Kompany himself says of the extension: “I am grateful, feel honored and would like to thank FC Bayern for the trust and the working environment that they have offered me from day one. It feels to me as if I have been here for much longer and that I understand the club well.”

He added: “It’s been a great experience so far, we’ve started a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate many more successes.” Kompany came to the club on the Isar in July last year and won the championship with the Munich team last season. Things are currently looking good for Bayern: They are five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Bayern’s President Herbert Hainer emphasizes: “The contract extension with Vincent Kompany is a strong vote of confidence from the club after its great work so far, and also a clear sign of continuity and stability at FC Bayern.” Hainer also explains that Vincent Kompany is held in high esteem.

Chairman of the board Jan-Christian Dreesen also had words of praise: “Vincent Kompany brought the fun back to FC Bayern – and the spark really ignited. Under his leadership, a real team has grown that plays dominant and attractive football.” This is also evident in striker Harry Kane, who was the league’s top goalscorer last season and is also leading the list this season with twelve goals so far.

Lothar Matthäus recently said in his column on Sky: “Under Thomas Tuchel he may not have been given the freedom at Bayern that he is now getting with Vincent Kompany or that he is taking.” Under the Belgian, Kane could “act as a free spirit”. Sports director Max Eberl also said in the club’s announcement that Kompany quickly proved “that he is moving FC Bayern forward – both on and off the pitch.”
