He is one of the best in his field and made his comeback last year. However, Marcel Hirscher will not be competing in Sölden.

Fans will have to be patient until Marcel Hirscher can be seen in the World Cup again: The ski star made his comeback last season and then tore his cruciate ligament in training a few weeks later. It actually looked like he could be there in Sölden next weekend – but nothing comes of that.

The project manager of Hirscher’s sponsor Red Bull, Patrick Riml, said on Servus TV: “Unfortunately he won’t be competing. The rehab went great, it looked very good, but unfortunately he was sick for the last two and a half weeks.”

Therefore, Hirscher is missing important training days and units. Before his illness, the Austrian trained in Zermatt, Switzerland. He will come back “as soon as he feels ready”. The 36-year-old has his sights set on the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo next year.

While Hirscher still has to wait for his return, another will be back at the start after his injury: Alexis Pinturault. The Frenchman will take part in the giant slalom on Sunday in Sölden. He was recently slowed down by a bone bruise on the inner tibial plateau resulting in a fracture, as well as an injury to the medial meniscus.
