The Tennessee Titans parted ways with their head coach Brian Callahan just a few days ago. The NFL team wants to announce the next separation in the middle of the week – but this time at the request of the person concerned.
As “ESPN” reporter Adam Schefter learned, Tyler Lockett asked for his release from the Titans on Monday and the Nashville organization agreed. The official separation should then take place on Wednesday afternoon.
Lockett had just joined Tennessee last spring and signed a one-year contract worth $6 million. The new addition represented – at least on paper – an upgrade for the Titans’ receiver group. It should also make it easier for rookie quarterback Cam Ward to get into the NFL.
However, Lockett was unable to live up to these expectations until the end. He was obviously never able to establish a connection with Ward, which is why the veteran only caught ten passes for 70 yards in seven games. His performance reflected the crisis facing the Titans, who are facing renewed upheaval after their 1-6 start.

NFL deja vu for Tyler Lockett
Speaking of upheaval: Incidentally, Lockett was only kicked out by the Seattle Seahawks in March of this year because the team from the NFC West was also aiming for a rebuild at the time. The former third-round pick spent the first ten years of his NFL career in Washington.
During this time, he set several team records for the Seahawks and became the second-best wide receiver in franchise history with 8,594 receiving yards, 661 receptions and 61 receiving touchdowns. He also managed to break the infamous 1,000 receiving yards mark in four seasons.
Lockett’s agent is likely to repeatedly remind potential prospects of these accomplishments starting Wednesday when his client becomes a free agent. And some ambitious teams, including the San Francisco 49ers or the Pittsburgh Steelers, could certainly inquire about the 33-year-old due to their WR absences.
