Sabrina Carpenter is more than just horny

On Saturday, October 18, the singer was both presenter and musical guest on the weekly comedy show. In her opening monologue, she wanted to clarify her image and not see herself as a mere sexual provocation: “Since I’m here, I want to clear up some misconceptions people have about me,” Carpenter added. “Everyone thinks I’m a horny pop star, but I really have so much more to offer. I’m not just horny… I’m aroused too. And I’m raunchy. And I love reading. My favorite books are encyclopedias, they’re so big and hard, and okay, I try to be serious, I’m sorry.”

The album cover was cropped incorrectly?

Right at the beginning of her monologue, Carpenter addressed the proverbial elephant in the room – the cover of her new album A MAN’S BEST FRIEND. The singer explained with a smile that some people were shocked by this, but she didn’t fully understand why. When the image was shown to the audience, Sabrina Carpenter soberly described what was in it: herself, on all fours, with a partially visible male pulling her hair.

The songwriter then joked that the cover was simply cropped incorrectly, referencing a scene that occurred at her last performance at the 50th anniversary of “SNL.” The audience saw an amateurishly retouched version of the photo. The extended version revealed that the person pulling Carpenter’s hair was SNL comedian Bowen Yang. The singer commented on the picture: “If you zoom out you can clearly see that it’s a photo from the 50th anniversary celebration. Bowen is helping me up by my hair.” The image zoomed out further and finally showed actor Martin Short next to a fully set buffet table. Carpenter added with a laugh: “After Martin Short pushed me out of the buffet line with the comment that Daddy needed his mini quiche or something like that.” She started laughing during the sentence, and the audience followed suit.

Origin of the album cover controversy explained

Even before the record was released, the cover caused heated discussions on the Internet. Many users on X condemned the suggestive pose, its meaning and the image of women that the songwriter conveys, especially to young people. Carpenter quickly responded with an alternative cover that shows her in elegant clothes dancing with a man at an event – without any sexual innuendo. In the caption, the 26-year-old joked: “Here’s an alternative God-approved cover.”
