Max Verstappen didn’t give the McLaren drivers a chance in Austin. However, his team received a fine after the race.
Max Verstappen’s victory at the US Grand Prix caused a sporting celebration at Red Bull – but off the track the team was responsible for a rule violation that had consequences.
After the race in Austin, the racing team was fined 50,000 euros. The race stewards were not punishing an offense by the Dutch star pilot, but rather the misconduct of a team member immediately before the start. Half of the sentence was suspended until the end of the season.
Specifically, it is about unauthorized entry into the area at the first gate near the second starting position – at a time when the formation lap had already begun and the marshals wanted to close the gate. Despite attempts by officials to stop him, the Red Bull employee did not leave the area.
As the BBC reports, the team employee is said to have tried to remove tape marking Lando Norris’ starting position. The Brit secured second place in qualifying, behind McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri and ahead of Verstappen.
Citing an unnamed source, the BBC wrote that Red Bull had not done this for the first time. Regardless of the adhesive tape, the starting boxes are color-coded on the asphalt.
