A motorist who tried to flee from a police check got stuck near Weerwille, a hamlet just outside Ruinerwold. No one was injured, but two officers were checked in the ambulance.
The chase started in Meppel, where the driver did not want to stop for a police check. This then led past Giethoorn, Steenwijk and on the A28 towards Hoogeveen. Two police cars eventually trapped the van at a roundabout near Weerwille on the N375.
Both police vehicles were damaged, as was the escapee’s van. It is not yet clear why the police wanted to stop the driver near Meppel. The driver was the only occupant.
