Number 2 out of the first call-up list. The blue captain: “Davis remains his home, I’m sure he’ll be back soon.” The blue quintet: Berrettini, Bolelli, Cobolli, Musetti, Vavassori
Filippo Volandri has issued the first call-ups for the next Davis Cup, but Jannik Sinner does not appear among the names. The world number 2, currently involved in the Vienna tournament, was not included in the initial list, but his participation is by no means excluded: the final call-ups will be announced only a week before the start of the competition, on 18 November, still leaving the door open for the Italian champion. The captain, in fact, has the possibility to change up to 3 players in the squad. At the moment, therefore, the Italian number 1 will be Lorenzo Musetti, called to lead the team in the absence of his more successful teammate. Sinner, absolute protagonist of the last two editions of the Davis Cup victorious in Malaga in 2023 and 2024, has not yet closed the door and much will depend on the progress of the ATP Finals in Turin. If Jannik wins he could renew the duel with Carlos Alcaraz who is instead part of the Spanish squad at the Bologna fair.

Filippo Volandri, Captain of Team Italia by Lavoropiù declared: “With our Italian boys we have built the successes of the recent past on team spirit and mutual trust. A trust that is based on the work and constant availability of each of them towards the others. For this reason we are convinced that the group will find themselves in Bologna with an even stronger motivation towards achieving a historic goal to give to the collective and to our fans. We will have to overcome treacherous opponents starting from Austria, but I am fortunate to be able to count on a large roster of players that will allow us to face the match with the utmost conviction. Jannik Sinner has not given his availability for 2025. The Davis Cup is, and will always remain, his home and I am sure that Jannik will soon be part of the team again. In the meantime, I can count on a group ready to fight and give everything for the blue jersey. In Bologna, it will be once again an exciting adventure, I know the value of these guys and I’m sure that the future will give us great satisfaction.”

Thus the president of the Binaghi Federation: “We understand and respect Jannik’s decision, which is nevertheless very painful for us, which comes at the end of a long and intense season, in which he has once again demonstrated that he is an extraordinary point of reference for the entire Italian tennis movement. The Davis Cup represents for him – and for all of us – a symbol of pride and belonging, and we are certain that he will soon return to wear the blue shirt with the same passion and determination as always. At the same time, I want to underline the great trust we place in the group led by Filippo Volandri: a solid, united team, capable of transforming every difficulty into a further push. Our boys have already demonstrated that they can achieve extraordinary goals together, and I am convinced that this time too they will be able to best honor the colors of Italy.”
