The derby can come: Eintracht Braunschweig ends its negative series immediately before the duel with Hannover 96 – and draws energy from it.

Eintracht Braunschweig had not won in the 2nd Bundesliga since matchday 2. Most recently there were four defeats in a row. However, the negative series ended on Friday evening. The BTSV won 2-1 (2-0) away at Fortuna Düsseldorf – and is suddenly in a positive mood again about a week before the Niedersachsensenderby against arch-rival Hannover 96 (October 26th, 1:30 p.m.).

“I feel pure relief and joy that we were able to take three points here,” said midfielder Max Marie, who himself contributed significantly to the victory in Düsseldorf with his goal to make it 2-0. The goal even marked a milestone for the 21-year-old. “I’m incredibly happy that I was able to score my first professional goal, and it’s even nicer with the win behind me,” said the BTSV professional.

After a convincing first half and goals from Chris Conteh (25th) and Marie (39th), the success faltered again after the break. Coach Heiner Backhaus also admitted that his team no longer performed so well after the break.

Things became especially shaky after Kenneth Schmidt’s goal (65′). In the end, Backhaus still saw his team as “deserved winners”. Similar to defensive player Florian Flick. “It was time for us to reward ourselves. It feels extremely good,” he said.

The victory is extremely important for Eintracht, not only in view of the table, in which they have now improved to 13th place with ten points. He also provides tailwind for the duel with Hannover 96 next Sunday in the Eintracht stadium at home. “The victory gives us momentum and new energy for the coming derby and the week,” said Max Marie.

At least in this respect, some in the BTSV camp may now believe they have an advantage over the sixth-place team from Hanover. The 96ers lost their last game before the derby 3-0 against FC Schalke 04.
